Top Trends in Interior Design for 2025

2025 Jan 13th

As the calendar flips, so do design trends - another year, another wave of exciting interior transformations! What are we looking for in our spaces in 2025? Interior design trends this year reflect a longing for warmth, nature, and limitless creative freedom.

The most intimate space in your home, the bedroom, is a cornerstone of self expression, and the perfect place to start incorporating new (and old!) trends into your home. Get inspired by our favourite home decor and design trends for 2025:

Maximalism: Go Big or Go Home

Opulence and grandiosity have revolted - the flat, all-white interior is out and maximalism is in! Design is going full-throttle this year with big colours, patterns, and textures - modern eclecticism at its finest. Whether you’re into cutecore, castlecore, or modern surrealism, it’s all about unleashing your personal expression.

On the walls, we’re seeing wallpaper, colour drenching (even double drenching - which is two colours), and pattern drenching to frame our spaces with fun and flair. Texture layering, especially on a bed or couch, is another way to add sensory depth to a space. When layering patterns, colours, or textures, try using contrast to add intrigue without overwhelming the senses. Play with scale and proportion to maintain balance, allowing each element to shine without competing for attention.

In the bedroom, accent pieces like throw cushions and blankets in dynamic textures and patterns can also add to a space without overpowering it. Accent headboards will be a focal point in 2025, bringing the bed itself into the forefront of bedroom design. Customization is also gaining popularity, with DIY projects adding a personal touch without breaking the bank. Try painting an accent wall or experimenting with macrame, wood, or other crafty materials to create personalized decor that suits your space.

Shade Stories: Earthy, Warm, and Bold

After the stark whites and greys and cooler seaside tones of yesteryear, in 2025 we’ll be journeying inland for warmer, richer earthy colour palettes, including deep burgundies, chocolate browns, warm creams, saturated greens, and deep navies. Our interior spaces are becoming more inviting, and designers are being drawn to the comfort and nurturing qualities of warm colours.

Here for the drama, bold jewel tones are also having a moment, with amethyst purple, emerald green, ruby red, and sapphire blue leading the charge. Because of their depth, jewel tones don’t appear too bright or dominant, and add a touch of glamour to any room.

To incorporate trending colours into your bedroom, try an accent rug and matching wall decor to bring warmth and intrigue to your space. Or make the accent piece your bedspread itself, and refresh your bedding colour scheme.

Fall in Love with Romance

After a stint away, we’re over the moon for the return of romance to our homes! Enchanting and fanciful design will sweep us off our feet in 2025 with romantic silhouettes and embellishments like ruffles, pleats, and fringes.

Many are even going full Rococo - the late-Baroque trend towards opulence and femininity - with glamorous chandeliers, gilded details, and whimsical art pieces. Romantic design answers a craving for all things vintage, encouraging nostalgic indulgence and era-spanning style.

To set the mood in your home, try choosing a colour scheme that uses bold colours and jewel tones, and even experimenting with colour drenched spaces. Incorporating secondhand vintage and antique pieces that reflect a personal story is a playful approach to bring nostalgic romance to the present. For your bed, nothing says romance more than pillows and cushions galore, silky smooth sheets, and a touch of velvet.

Nurture meets Nature: Biophilic Design and Sustainability

Connecting with nature and taking care of the Earth has never been more imperative. Heeding the call in 2025, we’ll be incorporating more natural materials, textures, and colours in our homes. Think plant and rock walls, wooden and clay details, and waterfalls under a backdrop of shining natural light. Floral and botanical prints are having a moment, alongside organic shapes in furniture and arched entryways.

Sustainable purchase decisions are also top of mind, with designers looking for items made of sustainably harvested, renewable materials that are good for us and the Earth. Another approach is purchasing only high-quality items, and choosing secondhand or locally-handmade goods.

To incorporate natural elements into your bedroom, add some plants on the windowsill, wooden and clay decor, and natural beeswax candles. On your bed, try sheets made from organic, natural fibres such as silk, bamboo, organic cotton, linen, or eucalyptus or beech TENCEL™ for a healthier sleep more closely connected to the natural world.

Comfort is King, Wellness is Queen

Today's focus on health and wellness extends to the home, and designers are shaping spaces specifically around how they feel. A growing trend in 2025 is creating small sanctuaries for specific forms of rest and relaxation such as reading or meditating. We’re also seeing entire rooms designed as holistic retreats, with natural themes such as the forest or seaside.

Cozy up your bedscape by layering richly textured pieces like quilts, blankets, and throw cushions for maximum comfort. Choose a duvet cover designed for calm softness, and smooth sheets designed for health and wellness. Infuse more calming sensory elements into your bedroom such as curated art, adjustable lighting, and soothing natural smells such as lavender.

Trends are a super fun way to spark your creativity and connect with the rest of the design world. But, it’s important to remember that they are simply a jumping-off point for creating spaces that feel like home. Pick and choose the elements that you like, and make your space your own.
