When it comes to sustainability, honesty is the best policy. That’s why QE Home is so proud to be growing our business while reducing our environmental footprint year-over-year.

By analyzing the complete lifecycle of our products, along with all emissions (including Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions) generated, we’ve been able to set and execute on ambitious reduction goals that take the full picture into account, going beyond our competitors in the fight for climate justice. As a result, QE Home has:

  • Dramatically reduced production emissions
  • Minimized transportation emissions (e.g. prioritizing freight train transport, low impact last delivery mile & vacuum-packing bulky items to save space)
  • Eliminated single-use cardboard waste & most single-use plastic waste
  • Increased e-commerce fulfillment efficiency by investing in East Coast & West Coast delivery facilities
  • Increased energy efficiency in our brick-and-mortar locations (e.g. using mainly renewable energy, installing efficient LED lighting & bluetooth tech, environmentally-certified renovation products, implementing strict waste management policies)
  • Diverted more than 90% of waste away from landfills through recyclables.

Our Supply Chain

We’re only as strong as our weakest link, and since we source materials from around the world in order to craft our world-class products, we take a holistic, multinational approach to managing our supply chain. That looks like developing ongoing, mutually-beneficial relationships with vendors to build trust, ensure product quality and consistency, and improve our practices over time.

Beyond making visits, we also work with recognized third-party auditors to evaluate, monitor, and certify the social and environmental practices of our suppliers. This allows us to ensure all who work with us uphold responsible labour conditions and environmental regulations.

Certifié Downmark®.

The Downmark® certification ensures that down and feather products bearing this mark are genuine, high-quality, and finished in Canada according to strict ethical standards.

ReHome Textile Recycling

Did you know 500,000,000 kilograms of textiles are thrown away every year in Canada? That impact on our planet is enough to keeps us up at night.

It’s also why we launched ReHome: our textile recycling and take-back program that keeps old bedding out of landfills and give linens a second chance at life. ReHome allows anyone to send their unwanted QE Home items back in exchange for store credits — helping repurpose old bedding into new fabric, eliminate excess waste, and empowering regenerative, sustainable consumption.

Rethinking Waste

When it comes to the current realities of packaging in our industry, we’re innovating and brainstorming ways to cut down where we can…but we need your help!

Rather than throwing your used textiles into the garbage, you can curb excess waste by recycling (via ReHome), donating, or repurposing old bedding instead. For example, many of our products, like our duvet covers and sheets, come with built-in/reusable packaging that reduces the need for bags or waste. Our plastic duvet bags are also perfect for storing away any seasonal items during the year.

Click below to find where to recycle or donate unwanted textiles depending on your location. (And if you’re willing to share the creative ways you reuse and/or recycle your bedding, let us know!)

Our Initiatives

Personnel

In 2022, we brought on our first full-time Sustainability Manager to spearhead our comprehensive program by identifying and addressing environmental concerns, implement targeted initiatives, and ensure eco-responsibility throughout the entire business.

We’re also committed to continuously educating staff about the eco-benefits of our materials and proper recycling procedures, so they can share this information with customers, dispel sustainability myths, and act themselves.

Our store operations are more sustainable than ever. Over half of the energy used at our 70+ QE Home locations across Canada is renewable (upwards of 20,300 GJ!), and 83% of our stores within buildings certified by the green rating programs BOMA BEST®, LEED, or RCO.

Communauté

Every year, QE Home donates thousands to nonprofits across Canada through initiatives like our 10,000 Dreams program. Founded in 2013, this charity initiative brings comfort to those in need by supplying the bedding items necessary to create warmth and safety. Over 75 community organizations and well over 3,000 bedding items were donated in 2023.

In partnership with the BeaYOUTiful Foundation — a Registered Canadian Charity — QE Home also hosted an empowerment workshop for youth, where community collaboration helped amplify our impact.
